Residential Solar Power Panels—Harness This Alternative Energy Source?

Renewable resources are the wave of the future, as governments and citizens look for ways to curtail overtaxing fossil fuels as a source of energy. Sunlight harnessed by residential solar power panels can provide a very energy-efficient and cost-effective alternative.

Electrical and heating appliances can run very effectively on solar power, once a homeowner purchases a solar power panel kit from an online or “brick and mortar” retailer. Many homeowners have been considering solar power panels as an alternative power supply for their homes.

What you Need to Know about Residential Solar Power Panels

When the sun shines on a residential solar power panel, it’s power is stored and can be used to power a house. Using this renewable energy source to supply power to a home offers enormous benefits to homeowners. Once the solar panels are installed, the sun’s energy is harnessed, stored and used without cost.

Residential solar power panels is the money it will save you on your electric bill. Once the solar panel equipment and installation has been paid for, the homeowner will be able to enjoy the freedom of powering their home without cost. Advances in green technology means that the cost of residential solar power panels has come down, opening the way for the average homeowner to take advantage of this alternative energy source.

Many homeowners are opting to install solar panels and power certain rooms and appliances in their home to lower their energy bills. This energy is free and powerful, sometimes powerful enough to send energy back to the electric companies. Because of the incentive of using safe, alternative energies and the associated economic savings, some people use solar power exclusively to power their homes.

The residential solar power panel system must be positioned properly so as to collect the sunlight. People who live in areas where adequate sunlight is not available won’t be able to use the solar panels. Depending on the number of panels required to power a home, the panels may take up a lot of space. Thankfully, advances in green technology means that solar panels are getting smaller, taking up less space and yet producing just as much, if not more power than they used to.

As more and more people discover the advantages of residential solar power panels, more and more homes will be turned on with solar energy.

The better the technology gets the more inexpensive solar panels will become. Energy will be produced abundantly and many more families will be able to afford the expense of solar for their homes. This will enable the planet to get greener and greener. Something we all want to see.

I think that solar energy is a win win for everyone. on one hand you save a lot of money on the electricity bill and on the other end you contribute to cleaner earth

  3. jon-jon from songs says:

I think Solar sourced equipments are growing.

Its the best way to get some other sources of energy saved.

however, lot of local stores take advantage of it and can sell in for more price though.

    so buyer should be aware.

  4. Michel from Solar Power Prices says:

It is a shame, though, that when governments hand out subsidies for the use of solar power, they usually exclude self-install or DIY systems. Many people would like to convert to solar power, however, the cost of professionally installed systems can sometimes be prohibitive. Self-install kits provide a cheaper way to embrace green energy. I only wished governments did more for the common Joe Bloggs/John Does who are trying to help Mother Earth recover from what we collectively have inflicted upon her.

Hi couldn’t agree more I think the interest in residential solar power panels is growing as people want to do something to help the planet.

Here are some tips if you are thinking of buying a home solar power system

    1. Recommendations and quotes
Ask friends, family neighbours or colleagues who have had home solar photo-voltaic systems installed. Can they share their experiences or give you a reference?

    2. Have realistic price expectations
If you are paying less than many other similar size systems quoted you may find poor quality equipment and/or poor installation work.

    3. What is in the manufacturer’s warranty?
Take note of what guarantees the manufacturer offers. If the manufacturer is reputable and the warranty period on the panels is at least 25 years you can expect your solar system to last long enough to pay for itself and make you a profit.

    4. Check Solar panel certifications and efficiency
This applies to all solar panel purchases , but especially to the purchases that could attract a government rebate.

    5. Decide on what type of panels
If you have limited roof space you will need highly efficient mono-crystalline solar panels. If you have partial shading then thin film amorphous solar panels may be more appropriate.

    6. Mounting of Solar Panels
Make sure that the roof, ground mounting or tracking system is engineer certified for the area you are in. The mounting system is a very vital component and some suppliers skimp on this item..

    7. Efficiency of inverter
A power inverter is the box between the panels and your appliances that converts DC electricity from solar panels to AC; suitable for use in your home. Power Inverter efficiency will have a direct impact on the amount of time it takes for a system to pay for itself.

8 Avoid high pressure sales people
If someone is in your home for more than an hour and they spent most of that time talking about the system, rather than surveying your home, the sales person is probably trying to soften you up for a very high price. Try not to make decisions on the spot.
    Best of luck Regards Graham

I heard yesterday CNBC that the price of solar panels has dropped by about 40%. This is great given the new technology. Affordability will lead to more widespread use and the return on investment will be a lot quicker. Anything we can do for the environment is a good thing.

Is always amazing that solar energy is called “alternative”. We all know that is the life force that sustains the planet and all life. Of course it can be a great solution for homes

  9. This totally makes sense. With such an unbelieveable source of energy as the sun. It is only natural to take full advantage of this wonderful gift. Wasting our natural resuorces on other forms of energy Without fully making use of this inexhaustable source is not the right thing to do. Renewable sources should be used anywhere we can so we can save something for our children and their children. Great info thank you.

i think solar energy is the renewable source of energy which can’t be finish so i advice to all that try to make use of this energy as far as possible.

  12. kate from generatorsforhomeuse says:

Personally I think it would be great if the government stepped in and offered everyone a free guide on how to build their own solar panels. There should also be financial incentives offered to homes that power at least some of their appliance from solar power. Rebates should be offered for any costs incurred in building your solar panels. This is a project you could get your children involved in. So that when they get their own homes they would also install a form of solar power unit. Using the sun and wind around your home to power your home should be promoted and encouraged from a government state level.

  13. Affordability is definitely key as is the need to dispel the myth that you need 12 hours of sunshine a day to get any benefits. In todays climate, both political and envirimental, it would be wise not to be totally dependant on the normal infrastrucure for our power needs.
